The issues
On Education:
Sponsored federal voucher legislation, and supports vouchers that could be used to fund private schools, religious schools and home schooling while reducing funding for neighborhood public schools. Would abolish the U.S. Department of Education.
On Colleges and Universities:
Voted to cut Pell Grants, which help low-income students attend college. Believes that the federal government should not fund education. “I am against any federal funding or control of education.”
On Health Insurance:
Opposed the Affordable Care Act and has voted to repeal it. Has suggested higher deductibles as well as increased premiums and stricter eligibility rules.
On Jobs and the Economy:
Says we should abolish the minimum wage. Opposes collective bargaining rights, and supports legislation intended to strip employees of their right to a strong union voice at work.
On Retirement Security:
Supports raising the retirement age for Social Security, and supports what would be the largest cut to Social Security in U.S. history.
On Human Rights:
Opposes the Obama administration’s executive order protecting undocumented children (DACA and DAPA). Supported legislation to defund DACA.
