Jackie Anderson

AFT Vice President
Jackie Anderson was elected president of the Houston Federation of Teachers in 2020. Prior to her election, she served as an HFT building co-steward, secondary vice president and secretary-treasurer. Anderson led the development of HFT’s Leadership Development Program and served as an HFT representative on the Houston Independent School District Special Education Ad Hoc Committee. She also has served on the school district’s advisory committee.
In 2017, Anderson co-founded Houston United for Strong Public Schools to advocate for students and elect champions for public education. She serves as president of the Harris County Labor Assembly as well. A lifelong resident of Houston, Anderson worked as a middle school special education teacher for 33 years, retiring in 2019.
Anderson advocates for children, educators and workers in her community. Her concern for workers and their rights—especially “the last and least”—has always been paramount. Our union cannot afford to lose ground, she says, adding that as long as our members remain united, we will build power and make the world a better place for everyone.
Anderson is married and has one son. She is blessed with four granddaughters. She also is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Hadassah Chapter 3, Order of the Eastern Star. She serves in her community as a street captain.
