Labor-Management Partnership

The AFT Innovation Fund stresses collaboration and joint problem-solving in all of our grantmaking. We have also supported the nationally known ABC Federation of Teachers and school district in an effort to spread their district-level partnership to schools throughout the California district.

Summary: ABCFT built upon its noted partnership with management by encouraging similar collaboration at schools. The Partnership for Administration and Labor (PAL) Council developed a rigorous application process that required schools to jointly plan initiatives designed to increase student achievement. The successful applicants were funded. The final year of the project produced a handbook on collaboration and a study seeking to understand how the climate of participating schools changed.

Intended Outcomes:

1. To bring labor-management partnerships, centered on improving student achievement, to schools and to institutionalize such partnerships in the district.
2. To assist other locals in developing partnerships through periodic institutes, a handbook and supporting research
