This section will help you think through the rules you will establish to govern student behavior and the procedures students will need to perform activities and meet their personal needs.

Rules (Guidelines/Policies)

Procedures (Routines)

  • Few in number (4 to 6)
  • 20 or more, depending on the nature of the class
  • Worded in general terms that require interpretation
  • Situation specific
  • Stated positively, if possible
  • Related to:
    -housekeeping
    -movement
    -administrative
    -instructional tasks
  • Taught on students' first day (or as soon as possible thereafter)
  • Taught in an orderly fashion over a period of days, weeks
