Administrators and Teachers Team Up for AFT’s QuEST Conference

Washington, D.C. — Teams of teachers and administrators from a dozen cities are among the over 2,000 attendees expected to attend the American Federation of Teachers’ QuEST conference.

The teams are from:  Hartford, Conn.; Watsonville, Calif. (south of San Francisco); Birmingham, Ala.; Hawaiian Gardens, Calif. (near Los Angeles); Cleveland; Nashua, N.H. (north of Boston); Plattsburgh, N.Y.; Port Washington, N.Y.; Owego, N.Y.; Shreveport, La.; Leesburg, Fla.; Belleville, Ill. (east of St. Louis) and Perth Amboy, N.J.

Attending and participating in the conference workshops as a team gives teachers, policymakers, and district officials the opportunity to share and discuss innovative ideas and programs that could be implemented in their school districts.

“Our experience has shown us that the most successful schools are in cities where there is collaboration between teachers and district officials,” says AFT President Edward J. McElroy. “The QuEST conference is the perfect forum for bringing together people who are committed to quality education.”

The QuEST conference will be held July 7-10 at the Hilton Washington in Washington, D.C.  In addition to the general plenary sessions, there will be more than 60 workshops on numerous topics facing teachers, students and parents, all of which are open to the media.  Reporters wishing to follow a particular team should contact George Jackson at 202/393-4275.
