AFT President Weingarten to Speak at 'The Atlantic Presents: The Shriver Report LIVE'
WASHINGTON— On Wednesday, Jan. 15, AFT President Randi Weingarten will take part in "The Atlantic Presents: The Shriver Report LIVE." The event will gather many prominent thought leaders to discuss the findings of the latest Shriver Report, "A Woman's Nation Pushes Back from the Brink."
At the event, Weingarten will participate in a 3 p.m. panel titled "Innovative Models for Pushing Back." Other panelists will include Kirsten Lodal of LIFT, Anne Mosle of the Aspen Institute and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. The panel will be moderated by Steve Clemons, Washington editor at large for The Atlantic.
Weingarten will offer examples of models in McDowell County, W.Va., New York City, Cincinnati and Chicago, where public-private partnerships have surfaced to alleviate poverty and improve public education. Additionally, she will discuss the importance of raising the minimum wage and bolstering the role of labor unions as proven strategies for providing opportunity in the United States.
