WASHINGTON—Frank Flynn, president of the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals, was elected today as a vice president of the American Federation of Teachers, the RIFTHP’s national union.
Flynn will be one of 43 vice presidents who serve on the AFT executive council, which shapes AFT policy.
A former special education teacher for Cranston (R.I.) Public Schools, Flynn has been an educator and union activist for more than three decades. He was president of the Cranston Teachers Alliance and a vice president of the RIFTHP before being elected the state federation’s president in October 2010.
Flynn replaces former RIFTHP President Marcia Reback on the AFT executive council.
