AFT Convention concludes
The AFT's 2012 convention in Detroit, which included the passage of important policy resolutions, lively speeches, presentations on some of the union's projects and partnerships, the re-election of the top three leaders, and much more, wrapped up on July 30. President Randi Weingarten, secretary-treasurer Lorretta Johnson and executive vice president Francine Lawrence were elected to continue to lead the national union over the next two years.
The more than 3,000 delegates also approved a new mission statement for the union and passed a series of resolutions to increase educational and economic opportunity. All of the daily proceedings and events are highlighted in the daily summaries, which are linked below.
