Higher Education
Higher education organizing has been going full tilt this spring, swelling the ranks of AFT members and strengthening the union’s position as the largest faculty and staff union in the country.
Our Issues
The AFT believes states must increase public funding for higher education so more people can access high-quality, affordable options.
The AFT believes that defending academic freedom and campus free speech is fundamental to the development of new knowledge and strengthens our democracy.
The AFT believes improving job security for faculty and staff and working toward the ending of contingency is the path forward to creating a better system of higher education.
The AFT is committed to combating the most recent extremist attacks that seek to reverse decades of progress.
The AFT believes that bringing real-world experiences to all students can engage them and make academic material more relevant.
Upcoming Events
The AFT convention is hereby called to convene at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. and will remain in session until such time as it has given full consideration to such matters as legally may be brought before it.
